Kempston Rovers host Histon on Saturday for the final league game of the season, entry is reduced to just £1 for the fixture, as Rovers hope for a bumper crowd to roar them into the play offs.
The maths is simple, Kemspton need a victory and favourable results from two other games.
Histon on the other hand, were confirmed as relegated on Easter Monday after defeat to Bedford Town.
Histon are on a downward spiral at the moment, from Conference play off semi-finalists in 2009- just one goal from making it to Wembley and the chance to get into the Football League, to today where they arrive having suffered a fourth relegation in six seasons and seeing crowds dropping off from touching two thousand to a few hundred. We wish them well in their rebuilding task over the summer and in their bid to bounce straight back next season.
Elsewhere in the play off chase, Barton Rovers, who require a single point to wrap up third place travel to Egham Town, who currently sit one point above us in fifth place. Dunstable are away at Northwood, who have narrowly escaped relegation thanks to Bedford’s late winner at Histon on Easter Monday.
Play offs are contested as one off games, with the higher placed sides in the league table being at home. Rovers can finish in fifth place which would set up a semi final away at Farnborough. This potential game is on the calendar for Wednesday night, usual time.
Whatever the outcome of today’s game, and the season overall, it is fair to say that we have had an amazing first season at this level of football.
At the end of the game, please show your appreciation to the players and coaching staff and congratulate them on a brilliant season.
