Tuesday night sees Rovers take on Aylesbury United in the league. It will be the fourth time the two sides have met, last season yielded a 2-0 away win and a 3-2 home reverse that was possibly more memorable for the two rather harsh red cards that Rovers received than the brilliant opening goal from former front man Danny Watson. The only other meeting between the two sides was in the FA Amateur Cup in 1928 at the “Divisional Final” stage.
The Ducks, who famously faced up against the England senior side as a warm up to Euro 88, arrive on the back of a slightly disappointing start to the season. Two wins from their six league games so far is offset by their progress to the next round of the FA Cup – they make the trip to Folkestone Invicta on Saturday. They were eliminated from their county cup last week by Beaconsfield.
Rovers currently sit eleventh in the table after Saturday’s win at Marlow. Luke Heneghan will be looking to make his first start in his second spell with the club after scoring as a substitute at Marlow. Kempston will be hoping to welcome back Grant Fryer and Alex Stoyles to the back line. Jake Newman will be looking to get back on the score sheet, the forward hasn’t scored since September second in the FA Cup win over Wisbech.
