United‘s current form is a bit of a funny one, defeats against Beaconsfield, Uxbridge and Chalfont have been countered by three straight wins over Marlow, Aylesbury and Northwood. They currently sit in sixth and hold the last play off spot. If the league were decided on home form alone, Hayes would be in second place in the table. It is their away form, on a par with Barton Rovers, that has cost them this season.
Kempston have had extra time to get over the turkey and prosecco after New Year’s Day’s clash with Cambridge was called off and will be looking to earn victory in the first game of the new calendar year. And, of course, who can forget the reverse fixture back in the Autumn at Hillgrounds when Robbie Goodman’s dramatic stoppage time winner stole three points for Rovers.
For those who enjoy a bit of football ground history; in the car park at the Skyex is a small stand that remains from the ground that stood on this site before the Skyex was built. This ground is on the former site of “The Warren” the ground of Yeading FC before the merger. The merged side played at Church Road, home of Hayes before a nomadic spell of ground sharing – including a stretch at the rather ‘local’ Maidenhead United. This is H&YU’s first full season at this ground.
Basic directions;
Head south on the M1 and take the M25 toward Heathrow. On the M25 use exit 16 for M40. Head eastbound towards London. Take the Target Roundabout exit, signposted Northolt, Harrow & Hayes. At the top of the slip road take the third exit (the first after exit towards London) onto the A312 towards Hayes. The next roundabout (The White Hart) is about 1 mile and a half on. Here ignore signs to Yeading (3rd exit) instead take the second exit towards Hayes and Heathrow to stay on the A312 (Hayes By-Pass). At the next roundabout, again ignore signs to Yeading and carry straight over. Take the next exit signposted Southall and Uxbridge (A4020 Uxbridge Road). At the top of the slip road take the first exit towards Southall and follow the 'directions continue here' below. Head eastbound along the (A4020) Uxbridge Road signposted to Southall. Get into the far right hand lane as soon as you can to turn right into Springfield Road at the next set of traffic lights (There is a petrol station and a retail development with a Wickes on the corner of Springfield Road)
Follow the road, past 'Goals' on your right. The road bears left into Beaconsfield Road, and about 100 yards on your right is the entrance to the ground.
