City‘s current form is among the best in the league at present and last weekend’s defeat to Aylesbury was their first loss in six matches. Only Corby Town have a better recent record than the Lilywhites. The club also sit highly in the attendance table with only Bromsgrove, Corby and Bedford having a higher average crowd. As with last season, it will be James Hall and Ryan Sharman who will be the main goal threat for Cambridge.
Kempston have been much better away from home this season, with just one away defeat and the cruel last gasp equaliser at Sutton Coldfield ruining an otherwise perfect away record. Sam Johnson and Aaron King will both be looking for their first starts for Rovers after the pair came off the bench in the previous game. Johnson returns to the club from his successful spell in New Zealand which saw him make the league’s all star team at the end of their season. King signs from Aylesbury and provides a different option in attack.
Cambridge are playing at Histon again after several seasons playing in St. Ives. Their eventual aim is to return to a ground of their own, naturally, but the return to Bridge Road is seen as a step in the right direction and is more of a ‘home’ ground for supporters than having to travel the fifteen miles from Cambridge to St. Ives for a home fixture.
Rovers only previous visit to Bridge Road resulted in a victory over former Conference side Histon two seasons ago. The facilities at the ground are among the best in the division as Histon required a certain standard to maintain Conference football, their decline to the Eastern Counties League, however, leaves a little bit of a white elephant.
Basic directions;
Head toward Cambridge on the A421, then take the A1 north at the Black Cat roundabout. Take the first exit after this from the A1 toward Cambridge. Follow signs at the roundabouts for A428 Cambridge. After the A428 merges with the A14, take exit 32 (signposted Cambridge/Histon B1049) and take the first exit on the roundabout onto the B1049/Bridge Road. The entrance to the ground is on the right after the road goes over the busway.
Car parking is limited to a few spaces on match days done on a first come first served basis, costing £2 and all other spaces at the ground are reserved for permit holders. Be aware of parking restrictions in nearby streets if you cannot get into the club car park. New Road is the next right turning after the ground and does allow car parking, just be considerate of driveways.
