On this day in Rovers history… The last time Rovers were in action on this date was in 2011, when we made the short trip to Wootton Blue Cross in UCL1, winning 2-0 on the way to a league and cup double that season.
In 1935, Rovers were taken to a North Beds Charity Cup semi-final replay by Arlesey Town after a 1-1 away draw.
The dramatic up-turn in form for Kempston since just before Christmas has seen Tony Joyce amass fourteen points in his eleven league games in charge, surging the team away from the relegation places.
News broke last week that Aylesbury FC were accepting relegation on ground grading issues, meaning that one other will go down at the end of the season. Kidlington are currently in that position, sitting bottom of the table, beaten by our visitors in their last game.
Sutton Coldfield spent the last three seasons in the Northern Premier League, having bounced around for a few seasons between different step four leagues. Rovers away game there in the autumn was the longest distance the club has travelled for a competitive league game since travelling to Boston Town in the UCL. The midweek trip was soured by a late equaliser for the hosts and a partial closure of the M6, leaving some of Rovers travelling contingent getting home in the small hours.
