Sports’ current form is rather grim reading for Rovers fans, only a 2-1 reverse against Bromsgrove has kept them from maximum points in their last six outings. The club won back to back promotions, coming out of UCL Division One in the same season as we were winning the premier. Sports claimed the Premier title themselves the following season before finishing mid-table in the Northern League Division One. They transferred into the Southern League for this season.
Kempston’s draw against Cambridge last time out was the tenth game of the calendar year and the eleventh point gained in 2019. Tony Joyce and Stuart Mellon are producing a brand of football that is harder to beat than Rovers have previously been this season, which has proved vital in the recent run of tough games (Bromsgrove and Corby aside).
Last summer, last season’s top scorer for Kempston, Jake Newman, left to join Sports. He has since departed, having not featured as much as he would’ve liked to, to link up with other former Rovers heroes Manny Sundire and Martin Conway at St. Ives in the league above.
Basic directions;
Use the A421 to head towards Cambridge, then head north on the A1. When the A1 becomes the A1(M), use exit 17 for the A47 Peterborough and Wisbech. Keep right as you exit the A1(M) and merge onto Fletton Parkway. Take the exit from this road signposted for City Centre A1260 (also signed for Yaxley and Sleaford) and leave the roundabout at the first exit onto Nene Parkway. At the roundabout for the A47, take the third exit, following the signs for Wisbech and Sleaford. Use exit 17, signed City Centre and Marholm Crematorium and go over the first roundabout (City Centre) before taking the third exit at the next roundabout, again following City Centre. Use the left hand slip to enter Lincoln Road and turn right. The entrance to the ground is a small turning on the left hand side, straight after the car showroom (third turning after entering the road). There is plenty of space in the club car park to accommodate this fixture.
